Honey: Honey bee is on the flower

Honey is a viscous concentrated solution of sugars produced by bees, these bees collect and process the blossom nectar or sweet juices on certain plant species (honeydew or forest honey).

It is one of the most valuable natural biological products being used since ancient times. Whether it is for health or Beauty treatments, Honey has secured its place for medical and nutritional purpose among ancient Greeks, Egyptians, in traditional Chinese Medicine, in Ayurveda. In Islam, The Quran mentions honey as medicine and hold’s its place in the Prophetic Medicine.

The pH level of honey is b/w 3.2 and 4.5, this acidic property reduce the growth of bacteria, and its antioxidant’s cleans up free radicals. It is being used for various ailments like wounds, burns, Ulcers, Cough, Immunity booster. Honey has so many benefits that “Apitherapy” – an alternative medicine branch, has been developed recently.

Black Seeds:Black Seeds

Most commonly known as black cumin, black seed’s scientific name is Nigella sativa or kalonji in Urdu, belongs to the buttercup family of flowering plants. The Black seeds are small black grains with a rough surface. The seeds when rubbed, their aroma resembles oregano. They have a slightly bitter, peppery flavor and a crunchy texture. It contain almost 40% fixed oils and 1.4% volatile oils. The Black Seed is an excellent herb with many benefits and uses, especially when it comes to maintaining a strong and healthy immune system.

So back to the topic, I started having these 2 – Honey & Black Seeds (Kalonji), a couple of months ago, at that time I was frequently falling sick.

and one fine day it just hit me that my visits to hospitals have increased sharply, and taking antibiotics frequently isn’t good for me and I really need to do something. That’s how my research on healthy life started.

Being a Muslim, I started my search from Islamic Perspective – Quran and the Prophetic advice. Now I knew about Honey and Black seeds from before, but I never was attracted or drawn towards there 2 items coz the taste.

But since I was decided about improving my health, I gave another try. First I researched about Honey with all seriousness and was surprised to know the amazing benefits honey have. With more research I came to know there are different honeys in the world and the ones which we get in the supermarkets are not the genuine one. After all the research on various websites I shortlisted 3 honeys.

  1. Sumar – very good for flus and cold
  2. Sidr – comes from Sidr / the Lote Tree
  3. Manuka Honey – from New Zealand

I decided to buy Sidr for the Trees siginifacne in Islam and the Manuka Honey from New Zealand, mind you, these are very costly, but I bought both of these.

I finished 1 lit of Sidr Honey in about 1 n Half to 2 months. And about 100-200gms of Manuka Honey during the same time of taking Sidr Honey.

And for black seeds, I started having about a pinch of this with Honey daily in the morning.

This routine continued for 2 months religiously and on & off in the following days.

And then came the season of the year where I would every year fall sick. And AlhamduLILLAH this time I did not need to go to hospital at all. Its been 6 months now, I only ONCE, got dry cough with slight itchy throat and this was because I had stopped the Honey blackseeds routine & I got close encounter with a family member having flu, additionally at this time I had fallen on the floor and got fracture in the elbow this also resulted in irregular eating of meals which was another reason for me to get prone to the flu.

BTW, I did not go to hospital for the cough rather I treated it again at home with honey & ginger remedies.

Anyways, learning my lesson, I recommitted to my honey & black seeds routine.

So, I would highly suggest you to include these two in your daily routine, let yourself and the family have it regularly, and soon you’ll experience the benefits.

I want to add here one more point, since I have used the term Prophet & Islam here, don’t take Black seeds or honey in other way, because we can find in Ayurveda & Modern Science the mention of these two items in high regard. You can find lot of literature about it on the internet. For more detailed benefits you can google.
