Guarding ALLAH’s Command:
Today, as I arose from sleep, I commenced my day a bit differently. I offered my Fajr Salah, indulging in a deeper, more meaningful communion with Allah, basking in His divine presence. A few hours later, as I began transitioning back to my daily worldly routines, a cascade of thoughts swept over me. I felt compelled to capture and share these reflections here.
Dear reader, as we journey together through life, I want to share with you some wisdom, and some reminders from our holy Quran. Hasn’t ALLAH Subhanawatawla, in His divine wisdom, given clear instructions to us, His believers, both men and women, about the importance of modesty? For men, He instructs to lower their gaze and protect their chastity (Surah Nur), emphasizing that this is the purest path.
While for women, ALLAH has similar instructions too. Prophet Muhammad (Peace & Blessings of ALLAH be always upon him) has been commanded to tell his wives, daughters, and all believing women to wear their jalabib (33:59), a garment that stands as a symbol of modesty and faith.
Now, I want to ask you, my dear sisters starting with me, have we kept ourselves shielded from the unwanted gazes of men who aren’t mahram (close kin)? And to my brothers, have you managed to control your gaze from wandering onto women who are not your mahram?
Remember, it’s not about unintentional glances or casual interactions in public spaces. We’re living in a world that’s more connected than ever, so it’s nearly impossible not to come across the opposite gender. But, it’s those deliberate actions we need to focus on—like browsing through digital platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram—where content may not align with our Islamic principles of modesty.
So, I want you to reflect. Have you abstained from indulging in such actions? – I did and I want you to do as well..
In the Quran, we’re also reminded about the importance of Salat (Contact Prayers), to be performed at both ends of the day, and during the night (11:114). These righteous deeds, Allah tells us, can wipe away our wrongdoings—a powerful reminder for those who choose to heed.
Have you offered your Fajar Salah today, or yesterday, or even the day before that?
If you find that you’ve faltered in observing these divine commands, I encourage you to ponder on this: Can you really expect Allah’s blessings in your life if you start your day disobeying His commands? If you neglect Allah’s instruction to protect yourself from the distractions and temptations of the non-mahram, can you hope for your children to listen and respect your words?
Remember, sin and disobedience can lead to a lack of provision, while acts of obedience and righteousness can bring forth plenty. Our lives are a series of choices, and the best one we can make is to obey Allah. Even if we’re tested, with patience and perseverance, we will overcome these tests. By submitting to Allah, we gain in ways we can neither expect nor foresee, with the greatest reward being His blessings in every aspect of our lives.
Here are some practical steps we can consider to help us better align with the principles of Islam:
Intentions:
Innamal Amlau binniya..- Remember actions are judged by intentions. We must Always maintain the correct intention in our hearts when observing any Islamic principle.
Guarding the Gaze:
By avoiding looking at non-mahram with lustful or inappropriate intent, both in physical spaces and digital platforms, we are obeying one of ALLAH’s command plus protecting from the fitna of what may come after that or what this (our inappropriate gaze) may lead us to “And do not go anywhere near adultery: it is an outrage, and an evil path”.. Surah Al-Isra 32 and Hadeeth “One unintetional Sight is pardonable but not the second”
Practicing Modesty:
We can Dress modestly in accordance with the principles laid out in the Quran. This goes for both men and women.
Salah:
We should make it a point to perform all our prayers timely, especially the Fajar & the Salah of Asr and must also encourage our children to practice the same for Salah as it protects one from Fahash. (Immorality) Surah Al-Ankaboot (29:45)
Constant Remembrance of Allah:
We can always keep Allah in our thoughts. This will make it easier for us to avoid sinful actions. Verse “In the remembrance of الله عز وجل do hearts find peace” – (Surah Ar-Rad 28) when we are in act of zikr we are in the company of الله عز وجل and when we are in such a high gathering how can we even bring some random people in such gathering?
Lead by Example:
Actions are louder than words, and walking the talk is what brings the bigger impact, therefore we must set a strong example for our children and those around us by strictly adhering to these principles.
Repentance and Seeking Forgiveness:
No one’s perfect, Man Errs, but the best is he who repents, we are bound to fall short, so let us not lose hope, we must repent sincerely and seek Allah’s forgiveness, while shaitan will cast whispers in our mind and heart let us Remember, Allah is the Most Merciful and Forgiving and he loves to to Forgive.
By adhering to these steps and precautions, we can strive towards a life filled with piety, chastity, and blessing in accordance with Allah’s commands inshaALLAH
